Ceiling Fan Installation and Replacement

New ceiling fans hung, old ones swapped out, and wobbly fans balanced, using existing ceiling boxes and wiring.

In a Georgia summer, a ceiling fan earns its keep. It moves air so a room feels cooler and your AC doesn't have to work as hard. We handle ceiling fan installation, replace old noisy fans, and fix ones that wobble, all where the wiring and box are already in place.

What's included

  • Removing the old fan or light fixture
  • Checking that the ceiling box is rated to hold a fan, and swapping in a fan-rated brace box when needed
  • Assembling and hanging the new fan
  • Connecting it to the existing wiring at the box, with the power off at the breaker
  • Installing light kits and remote or wall-control receivers that come with the fan
  • Balancing the blades so it runs smooth and quiet
  • Hauling off the packaging and the old fixture if you want

What we don't do, and why

Fan installs are straightforward when the wiring is already there. Some jobs go past that:

  • Adding a fan where there's no ceiling box or wiring
  • Running a new wire for a separate fan and light switch
  • Adding a new circuit or working in the electrical panel
  • Fixing wiring that's scorched, brittle or damaged

Those are jobs for a licensed electrician. If we open a box and find old cloth wiring that's falling apart or signs of overheating, we'll stop and tell you. That's not something to cover back up.

Picking the right fan

A few things to check before you buy:

  • Room size. Bigger rooms need a wider blade span.
  • Ceiling height. Blades should sit at least seven feet off the floor. Low ceilings need a flush-mount or 'hugger' fan. Tall ceilings need a longer downrod.
  • Indoor or outdoor. Covered porches need a fan rated for damp locations. Our humid air will ruin an indoor fan outside.
  • Controls. Pull chains, a remote, or a wall control. If you want separate switches for fan and light and there's only one wire run, that's an electrician job.

Get more from your fan

In summer, the blades should spin counterclockwise when you look up, pushing air down. In winter, switch to clockwise on low to move warm air off the ceiling. Our guide on ceiling fan direction by season explains how.

Swapping out other fixtures while we're there? We also handle light fixture installation, and grouping jobs into one visit saves you time. See our honey-do list batching guide for ideas.

Common questions

Can you put a fan where there's no light or wiring now?

No. Running new wiring or adding a new circuit is electrician work. If there's no existing box and wiring where you want the fan, we'll suggest a licensed electrician for that step.

Can a ceiling fan go where my light fixture is?

Often, yes, as long as the box is rated to hold a fan or can be swapped for a fan-rated brace box. Fans are heavier than lights and they move, so a regular light box isn't enough.

Do I need to buy the fan?

Most people pick out their own fan. We can help you check that it fits your ceiling height and room size before you buy.

Can you fix a fan that wobbles?

Usually. Loose mounting screws, bent blade arms or blades out of balance cause most wobbles. We tighten, check and balance it.
